PHC issues notice to police over missing Imam case

The Peshawar High Court has issued a notice to the police after agencies submitted their responses to a petition seeking the recovery of Hazrat Umar, a mosque Imam who disappeared outside Mardan Jail. Acting Chief Justice SM Attique Shah heard the case on a single-member bench.

The missing Imam’s father informed the court that his son was abducted immediately after being released from jail and that police in Charsadda took no action. The chief justice directed the concerned Station House Officer and Investigating Officer to appear before the court.

The Additional Advocate General stated that cases had earlier been registered against Hazrat Umar, but the father clarified that his son had been acquitted of all charges. He added that another son, a 17-year-old student, was also abducted from a madrassa in Sardheri.

The petitioner said no updates had been provided despite filing a petition regarding the second missing son. The chief justice noted that reports from federal and provincial agencies denied custody of the missing individuals.
