  • Says he represents ‘each and every person and child’ across Sindh, urging public to separate news from propaganda, respect province and Karachi

  • Says PMYP to be extended to Sindh with comprehensive education and training programmes, assuring timely issuance of certificates and degrees under youth initiatives

KARACHI: Newly-appointed Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi on Sunday said he is not an elected official but a constitutional governor, while addressing his maiden press conference in Karachi.

At the outset of his media briefing, he emphasised that, as governor, he represents “each and every person and child” across Sindh’s villages and districts.

“This is not a privileged post; it is a post of responsibility,” he said, adding that he prayed to God to help him fulfill his duties with honesty and justice.

Hashmi vowed that the federal government would work to create more job opportunities and improve education for youth across the province.

“It is a matter of immense joy that we will bring the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) to Sindh as well, in cooperation with the federal authorities,” he said.

The governor noted that he had conveyed to PMYP Sindh Coordinator Fahad Shafiq that the employment, education, and training opportunities provided to youth in other provinces would also be extended in Sindh.

Hashmi added that the initiative would go beyond youth programmes and computer training, encompassing a comprehensive curriculum across subjects and chapters, and assured that all certifications and degrees would be awarded on schedule.

In a social welfare announcement, he said that from Monday onwards, free Sehri and Iftar meals would be provided at Governor House to the deserving. “This is not a party’s caravan; it should be for Pakistan,” he remarked.

Highlighting the difference between news and propaganda, the PML-N leader welcomed public comments on his personality, but urged: “Do not speak negatively about my country, my province, or my provincial capital Karachi. This is my request.”

Speaking on Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, Hashmi said he “belongs to a household like yours and mine,” where patriotism and hard work are core values.
