JERUSALEM: Israel’s military said on Tuesday it had dismissed its former top lawyer from service months after she resigned in a case linked to a leaked video that appeared to show soldiers badly abusing a Palestinian detainee.
The case centred on footage recorded in 2024 at the high-security Sde Teiman military base in southern Israel. The video triggered international condemnation and also prompted protests inside Israel.
The scandal led last year to the resignation of military advocate general MG Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi. In her resignation letter, she acknowledged that her office had leaked the abuse video to the media.
In a statement, the military said: "From the moment suspicions arose regarding the former Military Advocate General in the ‘Sde Teiman’ affair, the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, decided to immediately suspend her from IDF service,"
The military added:
In light of the prolonged criminal proceedings, and given the severity of the alleged actions and suspicions, the Chief of the General Staff has decided to dismiss her from the IDF.
