During the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz briefed the visiting delegation on Punjab’s ongoing large-scale development drive and invited the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to become a partner in the province’s transformative infrastructure and public welfare projects.

The chief minister highlighted the Punjab government’s flagship “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” programme, saying the initiative had received appreciation during the 13th session of the Baku Urban Forum.

She said more than 100,000 houses had been constructed within a year under the programme, describing it as a landmark step toward affordable housing and public welfare.

Maryam Nawaz said Punjab was also successfully implementing electric bus and e-bike initiatives across the province as part of efforts to modernize public transport and promote environmentally sustainable mobility solutions.

She appreciated AIIB’s cooperation regarding the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving Lahore’s water supply and sanitation infrastructure, saying the agreements reflected the international financial institution’s confidence in Punjab’s development and reform agenda.

The chief minister said the Lahore Wastewater and Drainage Management Project — including the sewerage network and wastewater treatment plant at Babu Sabu — would significantly improve the city’s drainage and sanitation system.

She also termed AIIB’s support for the proposed surface water treatment plant at the BRBD Canal as highly valuable, adding that cooperation with the bank would help bring positive and lasting changes to urban infrastructure and civic management.

“Punjab is moving rapidly toward environmental protection and improved public health standards,” the chief minister said, adding that the province was progressing toward a modern and sustainable model of urban governance.

She said data-driven planning, technology-based monitoring systems and climate-smart infrastructure would help improve the quality of life of citizens, while provision of clean drinking water, healthcare and an efficient transport system remained among the Punjab government’s top priorities.

Welcoming AIIB Chief Investment Officer Konstantin Limitovskiy to Lahore, the chief minister described the provincial capital as Pakistan’s cultural hub and said the Punjab government highly valued its partnership with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
