Buzdar lays foundation stone of Sheikhupura-Gujranwala dual carriageway

CM says 43-km long project will be completed under public-private partnership with cost of Rs5.7 billion

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Saturday laid the foundation stone of Sheikhupura-Gujranwala dual carriageway project.

Punjab’s Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Industries Mian Aslam Iqbal and some senior officers of the concerned departments were also present on the occasion.

Buzdar said that the 43-kilometre long project will be completed under the public-private partnership with the cost of Rs5.7 billion, adding that thousands of travellers will benefit from better transportation facilities with the completion of the project on a daily basis.

He said, “After the completion of the project, an easy access from Gujranwala to Motorway’s M-2 section and Sheikhupura will be possible. The private partners will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of the project for 25 years. The construction of road will interlink two industrial cities, besides providing better transportation facilities to the citizens and saving time and fuel.”

Buzdar added that a new era of real change in the province has been started. “For the first time, projects have been designed according to the needs of people and after consultation with public representatives. Backward areas are being turned into developed ones while new universities and hospitals are being set up in far-flung areas. Every city will be given a separate development package,” he said.

“Personal likes and dislikes affected the development projects in the past and resources were wasted by ignoring the public priorities. The incumbent government has focussed on development of every area. Everyone is being taken onboard for sustainable development and prosperity of the people.”

In a separate gathering, the chief minister expressed a deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of the mother of former President General (R) Pervez Musharaf. He extended heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.
