World Radio Day has been celebrated every 13 February. Kudos to the entire UNESCO group for this new interesting initiative. Now, it is understandable that this special big day has been celebrated and welcomed by almost all the people across the world stage. Even many a political bigwig across the international community has been fondly praising the importance of the radio. I hopefully think the many of the mainstream and world-famous TV channels had started their forays with launching many radio programmes way back in the past. In fact, one can only feel the new breeze emerging from the radio programmes. Incidentally, the timing of this email letter writing coincided with some interesting tidbits being broadcast on radio from outside my house. Interestingly, I have studied that the radio has been playing a very crucial role in the matter of making great communication with ships and even aeroplanes through radio signals. There has been the wide spread of radio listeners in my native areas like Tuticorin, Korkai, Tiruchendur, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. All these years down the road, there has been no ending of the passion of the people. Most of them in Tuticorin,Tirunelveli, Tiruchendur, Coimbatore, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad have long been getting their favorite newspapers and magazines even from outside their dwelling areas by means of special subscriptions and exclusive inter-state delivery system. In Asia, countries like Sri Lanka, meaning those channel owners, have been successfully running Tamil FM radio stations aimed at the locals and the diaspora of fans abroad. Likewise, the availability of English newspapers and magazines from the outside countries must be made even much easier across the Asian area and at the world stage. Maybe, call it the transborder newsstand for the global knowledge! The radio has been the real attraction to all. During my 1998 college days in Tiruchendur, the local radio stations had played a big role in moulding my English knowledge through daily news bulletins. Apart from my family and others, I have my best elder friend constantly following all the radio programmes, thereby having been conducting quiz events locally for more than twenty years up till now. In this Internet world, the radio services are available in the various forms on the mobile apps.
