Sindh extends closure of educational institutions until May 23

KARACHI: Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani announced on Saturday that educational institutions across the province will remain closed till May 23 to avoid a further surge in new infections.

The decision was taken in view of the current coronavirus situation, he said.

“During the period, educational institutions will remain open and children will be educated through online classes [and the material will be shared through] WhatsApp, email, and other means,” he maintained.

While the institutions will remain closed, their heads will be allowed to call in some teachers and non-teaching staffers, he announced.

Ghani further directed institutions to ensure full implementation of the guidelines regarding the academic syllabus.

The federal Ministry of Education on Friday directed the provinces to ensure the closure of educational institutions.

“Educational institutions shall remain closed till May 23 in view of the directives of the NCOC [National Command and Operation Centre] to deal with the third wave of Covid,” read a communique issued by the body.

It added that the directives apply to all government, private institutions, religious seminaries, and vocational and technical educational campuses.

The ministry asked the authorities to ensure that the directives are followed in letter and spirit.
