Abbasi accuses govt of protecting people involved in RRR scandal

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MP Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday accused the government of protecting people involved in the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) scam.

Talking to reporters in Islamabad, Abbasi claimed everyone in Prime Minister House is busy making money.

No graft or money laundering charges have been proven against PML-N president and National Assembly Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif, he added.

The reaction came after Zulfi Bukhari, adviser to the prime minister, resigned from his post over the scandal.

Bukhari announced his resignation through a tweet wherein he said Imran has always said that if a person has been named in any inquiry, whether rightly or wrongly, he should cease to hold any public office till his name has been cleared of the charges.

“Owing to the allegations in ongoing Ring Road inquiry I want to set this example by resigning from office until my name is cleared up of any allegations and media’s obnoxious lies”, he added.

He reiterated that he had nothing to do with the project or any other ongoing real estate project in the country. He said a thorough inquiry should be conducted and endorsed a judicial probe of the scam.

“I’m here to stay in Pakistan and stand united with the Prime Minister and his vision. I sacrificed my life overseas to come and serve my country, I am ready to face any inquiry,” Bukhari said.
