ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif on a request of the federal government, challenging the Lahore High Court decision to allow him to travel abroad on medical grounds.
The court while hearing the plea directed the Lahore High Court to submit the entire record of the proceedings in the original petition filed by Sharif.
In his remarks on Tuesday, Justice Ijazul Ahsan asked if there was a medical emergency that led to an immediate hearing into the case.
At this, Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan said that previously Sharif bail plea on medical grounds was turned down and there is no such record that he needed immediate medical treatment.
“Even the high court did not hear the government’s argument and gave a one-sided decision besides also directing to implement it,” Khan said.
When the judge asked if a person on bail is barred from traveling abroad, the attorney general wondered if a person could go directly from jail to the airport.
Khan said Sharif conveyed to the LHC that his name is on the blacklist, however, if the government’s reply was considered during the proceeding then the high court would be able to share the facts.
“His name is currently on ECL,” he said.
