ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday announced to take legal action against India for spying on its Prime Minister Imran Khan and military officials.
Addressing a press conference, Advisor to PM on Interior Barrister Shehzad Akbar told media that the prime minister has termed the misuse of Pegasus (spyware) a bigger issue than Panama Leaks and formed a team for initiating legal action against India on the issue.
“Indian regime under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is involved in espionage against Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and civilian officials. Moreover, some senior officials of foreign ministry and military were also spied on. Imran Khan has directed the team to take strict action against India,” the advisor said.
Flanked by Minister for Information Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, the advisor said that the team would investigate the spying through Pegasus, adding that it would scrutinize all the cases and gather evidence. He said that the process may take two to three months.
“Spyware has been used to target Pakistan. India has carried out hybrid espionage through Pegasus software manufactured in Israel. This is a serious matter, which cannot be ignored,” he said.
Akbar further said that Pakistan will also take up the matter at the top global forums, including the United Nations, and the results of the investigation will be communicated to the United Nations and other agencies.
“Pakistan will take every legal step to protect its security and sovereignty. We also demanded an investigation by the United Nations. The world needs to know why the Indian regime is lying over the issue of espionage on Prime Minister Imran Khan and other high-ranking officials,” he added.
He said that India attacked Pakistan’s security through cyber espionage while Indian foreign minister has also confessed of conspiracy and lobbying to keep Pakistan on grey list of Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Referring to the recent report of the European Union DisinfoLab, Akbar said that the report had proved that Indian regime was involved in creating hundreds of fake portals, media platforms and NGOs to defame Pakistan. He said that the EU DisinfoLab had proved the Indian conspiracy against Pakistan.
“India has used the software very irresponsibly. Prime ministers of 10 countries have been targeted by the technology. France has started an investigation into the matter. Pakistan will also take legal action against India on the issue of espionage,” he concluded.
