Fawad hails ECB’s announcement for Pakistan tour next year

Thanking the cricketers of the world for their support that translated in the England cricket team’s vow on Wednesday to reschedule the Pakistan tour next winter after its pull-out of the scheduled October tour of Rawalpindi, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said it’s a welcome step.

In a tweet , the federal minister said that the announcement of ECB to visit Pakistan next year is a “welcome step”. “I would like to thank stars of cricket world, diplomatic community, media and cricket lovers around the world for their support to Pakistan cricket.”

Fawad took the opportunity to claim it a victory for the nation and said, “Yet again Pakistan has emerged as a strong and resilient nation.”

Earlier in the day, after a prolonged silence, the ECB finally apologised for cancelling the scheduled tour.

In his remarks, reported by The Daily Mail, ECB chief Ian Watmore apologised for the England team’s withdrawal from the Pakistan tour and expressed commitment to visit the country next year.

“We’ve recommitted to a proper tour, a scheduled tour, of Pakistan next year and will get on with planning that. We will have longer to plan that trip,” Watmore was quoted as saying by the publication.
