Finance minister set to be elected as senator

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to get Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin elected as a senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

According to sources in the ruling party, the prime minister chaired a meeting to discuss the issue and finally approved the appointment of Tarin as a senator.

“Shaukat Tarin may be made finance adviser for two weeks. Then he will become a senator and finance minister once elected as senator,” sources told Pakistan Today.

Source said that to get Shaukat Tarin elected to the Senate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ruling party would have to sacrifice a member of the Senate to be replaced with Tarin. However, a decision on which senator will resign from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to elect Shaukat Tarin will be taken in the next couple of days.

It is worth mentioning that any unelected person must become a member of parliament within six months to remain as a federal minister.
