TTP announce twenty-day ceasefire in South Waziristan

The outlawed terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced on Friday that it had reached an agreement with the Pakistan Army to halt all hostilities between the two.

Our leaders have asked all fighters to observe a ceasefire from today to October 20, the TTP statement said.

The TTP further clarified that it is engaged in “secret talks”.

The ceasefire comes following Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday stating that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government is seeking reconciliation with some groups of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and has initiated talks with them to begin the process.

He said that the Afghan Taliban are “helping”, in the sense that the talks are taking place in Afghanistan.

The premier said that these talks, for disarmament, if successful, will lead to the government “forgiving” them, “and then they [will] become normal citizens”.
