Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin on Saturday said that comprehensive steps are being taken to bring improvement in the economy.
Briefing the media persons at Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, he said “our target is to enhance tax to GDP ratio to twenty percent in the next four to five years”.
Tarin said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will validate data and statistics on power, gas tariffs and tax collection.
“We are here to finalise our matters with the IMF,” he said. “We have told the IMF to validate the data we have shared with them.”
The minister said that the government’s structural reforms are being appreciated. He said the common man will be provided relief through targeted subsidy.
Expressing satisfaction over the inflows of remittances, Tarin said that that 2.7 billion dollars were received during the last month.
During the first quarter of current fiscal year, remittances increased by 12.5 percent to reach eight billion dollars.
The minister revealed that he would be elected as senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said he has been appointed as an adviser.
The government has been unable to elect Tarin as a member of the Parliament within the stipulated time of six months, which expired on Saturday. Now there is no other option but to appoint Tarin as adviser to PM on finance and revenue.
