PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government Thursday announced to hold elections for local bodies institutions across the province in December.
Kamran Bagash, special assistant to KP chief minister, said a letter has been sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding holding the elections.
The provincial government will ensure all the arrangements for the polls and vowed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will win the election.
Earlier, the KP cabinet had approved Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government (First Amendment) Act,2020.
The KP LB regime completed its tenure in August last year and the ECP recently held a meeting to review arrangements for the polls.
The commission is bound to hold elections within 120 days after the expiry of the tenure under Article 140 (A) and Section (4) 219 of the Election Act, 2017.
In May, the Sindh government conveyed to the ECP it could not hold local government elections in the province in 2021 owing to its reservations on population census.
According to sources, the LB polls could not be held nationwide this year after the provincial government conveyed to the ECP that it could not do, without elaborating further.
