PDM ‘a gathering of heterogeneous elements’: minister

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry dubbed the anti-government opposition alliance “a gathering of heterogeneous elements” that he declared had neither a leader nor any programme for the public.

In a tweet sent Sunday, Chaudhry said: “Some opposition parties have a presence in one division, others in three.”

The minister said the opposition neither had any leader nor any programme. “The attempt on their part to launch a movement against the only federal party [Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf] was nothing but an attempt to keep themselves alive in the media,” he said.

Chaudhry declared PTI was the only national political party in Pakistan and one with a “national agenda”.

His tweet came a day after the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) decided to launch nationwide protests as well as a long march on Islamabad against the government’s “anti-people” measures and rising inflation.

A statement issued following a virtual meeting of the alliance announced: “A protest will be held in Karachi on November 13, followed by one in Quetta on November 17 and in Peshawar on November 20.”

The last rally would be taken out in Lahore, from where protesters would march towards the capital, PDM Secretary General Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said.

“This movement will end only after sending [Prime Minister] Imran Khan packing,” the statement said.
