Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam has said that his side will maintain the winning momentum and perform well against Australia in the semi-final of the Twenty20 World Cup 2021, scheduled to be held on Thursday.
During a virtual press conference, the skipper said that minor mistakes, which were made in the previous matches of the tournament, have been noted and his team members are trying hard not to repeat those mistakes in the upcoming matches.
“It is good that we are trying to fix these issues,” he maintained.
“Sometimes the environment builds pressure on the players and in such circumstances, management and players support each other to ease pressure,” he said, adding that group activities are organised and if any player is seen pressurised, then everybody supports him.
“Some of the players in the squad were also a part of the Pakistani team for the Champions Trophy. This combination of players is good as these players have been constantly playing and they understand each other very well,” he said, adding that “I am glad that in all the matches, a new player was awarded the man of the match trophy”.
Earlier, during a media talk following the emphatic victory in the last pool match against Scotland, Babar said that the support of players to each other has brought out the best in all departments of the game.
He termed “unity” the biggest asset of his team. “We show support for each other every time we go out on the field. Such a spirited display has lifted our morale and helped each player contribute to the cause. Whether it is bowling, batting, or fielding, Pakistan cricketers have shown tremendous support for each other.”
He said that Pakistan are carrying all the highs into the semi-finals. “We are the only unbeaten team in the competition so far. The team have played some fabulous cricket and looked formidable in all departments of the game. We will carry that momentum going into the semi-finals. No matter against whom we are playing, our efforts would be to take the same vein and continue to give our best in all departments. So what we want is to play the best brand of cricket as we have shown in all the five matches so far.”
