Pakistan, US navies hold joint drill

KARACHI: USS Pearl Harbor, a Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship of the American Navy, arrived in Karachi where the navies of the US and Pakistan conducted a joint exercise to support naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the region.

The two navies issued a joint statement, saying: “USS Pearl Harbor is deployed to the US 5th Fleet AOR. #NavyPartnerships.”

USS Pearl Harbor conducted a scheduled port visit in Karachi on November 9-11.

Then Pakistan Navy’s PNS Tabuk and Azmat ships sailed with USS Pearl Harbor in the Gulf of Oman.

“Longstanding cooperation between our navies is built on a shared commitment to safeguarding the seas and maintaining regional security and stability,” said US 5th Fleet in a tweet.

Pakistan Navy said the visit would enhance the joint peacebuilding measures in the region.

On completion of the port visit, the two naval forces conducted a passing exercise.

While in port, US crew members had an opportunity to rest in a designated liberty area and participated in several community relations activities.
