Ice Melting: Hamza Shehbaz visits ailing Ch Shujaat

LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Hamza Shehbaz Tuesday paid a visit to former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, who is admitted to a hospital in Johar Town neighbourhood of Lahore, to inquire about his health.

The meeting comes amid reported tensions between the PML-Q and the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) ostensibly on the proposed legislation on electronic voting.

Interestingly, Hamza also held a meeting with Hussain’s cousin and Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi.

During the visit, Shehbaz met and spoke with Elahi as well as Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Shujaat’s son.

“Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is a senior politician of the country and a very fine person,” Hamza told reporters. Shehbaz also prayed for Hussain’s speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz made phone calls to Saalik to ask about Shujaat’s health.

Nawaz said that Shujaat is a “symbol of elegance” while Maryam said that she is praying for his speedy recovery.

Shahbaz Sharif had also called Saalik to inquire about Shujaat’s health on Monday.

During a recent meeting chaired by Elahi, the PML-Q parliamentary committee claimed it was becoming difficult with each passing day to continue supporting the PTI governments in Punjab and the Centre while expressing concern over price hikes and inflation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government has come under heavy criticism for not reining in the price hike. The petrol price is over Rs145 a litre, and the rupee value is rapidly depreciating.
