Punjab Minister asks FIA to take action against online rumours about air quality index

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Environment Protection Department (EPD) Muhammad Rizwan has said that FIA should take action against those spreading fake/unauthorized data of air quality index on social media and the internet.

In a letter, Muhammad Rizwan said EPD was administering the Punjab Environmental Protection Act, 1997 to provide protection, conservation, rehabilitation and improvement for the prevention and control of pollution and promotion of sustainable development.

During smog season, some unscrupulous elements had been trying to report misleading/false readings of the Air Quality Index from different unauthorized sources in Lahore on different media platforms contrary to the information by EPD, he added.

The provincial minister has asked the FIA to take legal action against individuals/organizations involved in issuing fake/unauthorized data on social media and the internet without the approval of EPA.
