The Opposition on Thursday slammed the government over the ongoing petrol crisis after the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) started a country-wide strike and thousands of people lined up outside petrol pumps to get their tanks filled.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Vice President Maryam Nawaz said that despite all the chaos, the government has been “inconsiderate” towards the masses, adding the she has never witnessed Prime Minister Imran Khan “being worried over a common man’s problems.”
The PML-N leader shared a video on her Twitter handle, in which a man can be seen criticising the government for petrol crisis, and images of long queues outside petrol pumps. She said: “This is the humiliation that Imran Khan has earned for a few days in power.”
“These are not just long queues, [these images depict] people’s misery, pain, and helplessness.”
On the other hand, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari critiised the government over its dealing with petroleum dealers.
“Most of the petrol pumps are closed in the country, while several long queues can be seen […] businesses affairs are affected, which is the government’s failure,” he said.
“The PTI-led government turns solvable issues into crisis through its incompetence. From day one, we had said that the PTI’s budget is a failure […] and the failure of the budget has proved that Imran Khan’s government is incompetent,” Bilawal said.
Earlier on Wednesday, PPDA Secretary Information Khwaja Asif Ahmed had said: “This strike is nationwide. This is all over Pakistan and it will be for an indefinite period. We will not make our pumps operational till our demands are met.”
In an earlier handout, the body had said that a meeting of petroleum dealers was held in Lahore on November 20, wherein it was pointed out that the government would raise the profit margin three years back.
