United Nations’ responsibility

United Nations Organisations (UNO) came into being only for the purpose of preserving peace, averting wars and settling disputes on the other side of the picture, nothing as such is visible. Since the world is once again bound up in the grip of humanitarian crises on a global scale. On one hand, the long-simmering outstanding dispute of Kashmir, the oppression of Rohingya Muslims and Uhigur Chinese Muslims are treated inhumanely; on the other hand, Muslims in Arab countries—Syria, Yemen, Palestine– are killed, persecuted and displaced but there is no voice raised on these international crises.

When organisations like the UNO are supposed to settle these issues, it is a pity seeing that UNO whose ambit is stretched over the world is not playing the expected role. In contrast, it is listening to those countries which are economic and technology giants, especially the US. Might is right. This saying is a reflection of current times in which only powerful countries are heard while the rest of the world is required to toes their line. Every country has to live under the patronage of superpowers so as to safeguard its economic interests.

When it comes to humanitarian crises like the recent Israeli savagery, even condemnation of it is beyond question. One wonders why is the UNO created?

Currently, Palestinians are facing beastly persecution, many lives have been killed and rendered homeless and the vicious cycle of displacement is grossly perpetrated but nothing on the part of the UNO is done to resolve the crisis.

There are a number of provisions referring to fundamental human rights in the UNO Charter which are also being violated by Israeli but no one can dare to dissuade the illegitimate state of Israel from harming unarmed and innocent Palestinians.

In recent times, the whole Muslim world, even now, was seen as the epicentre of terrorism due to various reasons but the major factor is ‘deviation from the true teaching of peace’.

Hence, it is logical to say that UNO has a very important responsibility to undertake, keeping in view the current humanitarian crises so that it could make the world a better place to live in.
