Relief for plaintiffs on ombudsman’s intervention

LAHORE: On the direction of Punjab Ombudsman retired Maj Azam Suleman Khan, legal relief of more than Rs27.53 million was provided to the plaintiffs from different cities who approached the office for the resolution of their problems.

Due to the timely involvement by the ombudsman office, a road in Athara Hazari tehsil of Jhang has been restored by retrieving the 1,106,260.53 square feet portion from illegal occupants. The market value of the recovered portion is estimated to be Rs23 million.

Similarly, pending dues of Rs2.1 million have also been paid to the widow of one Shakil Ahmad who was employed as a lab attendant with Government Associate College for Women, Kallur Kot in Bhakkar.

In another development, one Muhammad Siddique of Chunian tehsil of Kasur obtained family pension dues of around Rs1.3 million of his late wife after the involvement of the ombudsman office.

Meanwhile, the health department provided ample stock of necessary medicines, along with the budget for necessary repair, after the own motion notice of Ombudsman Khan that he took over a news report regarding the lack of medical facilities in Changa Manga’s rural health centre.

The ombudsman office, acting on a separate application of one Younis Aziz of Lahore, negotiated to reimburse Rs1.1 million to the applicant. The amount was kept pending by highway sub-division Mandi Bahauddin.

Alongside, necessary steps have also been taken by the Sialkot administration on a separate own motion notice of Khan on the news about encroachment in the city and trespassers have been fined Rs0.9 million.
