Political interest

BEING loyal to one’s department and obey one’s seniors can sometimes cost one’s life. This is what happened with Constable Kamal Ahmad who was part of a team of Punjab Police that raided a house before a long march that was called by the main opposition party recently.
Whenever any sit-in or march is announced, law-enforcement agencies are used for political benefits and power show by the governments. Likewise, those in the opposition at any given point in time use all their resources to target the law-enforcement personnel even though they know fully well that the individuals are simply carrying out orders.
In all this political game, the victims are policemen who bear all the losses. Last year, when supporters of a party were on the roads protesting and asking the government to expel the French ambassador, four policemen had been martyred and more than 250 were injured.
Those responsible for the death of these policemen have never been held accountable. The fact is that nobody has even tried to hold them accountable.
The same game was played before and during the recent long march by the opposition which also saw the death of a policeman who was performing his duty. Political exigencies will never allow anyone to dispense justice in such cases.
At the end of the day, neither the government nor the ones who killed the constable care. He had two sons and three daughters, but nobody cares. The family had no other source of income, but nobody cares. They were living in a small rented house, but nobody cares. His children were waiting for their father to return home that night. He did return, but not alive. But, then again, nobody cares.
