LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday admitted in the Lahore High Court that there were ‘human errors’ in the voter lists for the upcoming by-polls in 20 Punjab Assembly seats.
During hearing of a petition, the provincial ECP head showed up in the LHC and admitted to the mistakes, saying that as many as 4 million people have been shown dead in the voter lists due to a data operator’s mistake.
The ECP accepted the “reported errors” in the court during hearing of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petition filed against anomalies in voter-lists on Friday.
In the petition, PTI Central Punjab President Yasmin Rashid claimed that the ECP had deemed alive people dead in the voter lists. The provincial ECP head admitted to their mistake and said that they deemed 4 million people as dead due to a data operator’s mistake.
The date in the voter list is also inaccurate and will be rectified, the ECP Punjab head informed the court and added these mistakes occurred due to human error. The Lahore High Court (LHC) concluded PTI’s petition after Election Commissioner Punjab’s head satisfied the court that all these mistakes will be rectified.
