Foreign Office offers condolences on loss of life in Egypt bus crash

ISLAMABAD: The government and people of Pakistan extended heartfelt condolences to Egypt on the loss of lives and injuries to many in a tragic road accident near the city of Minya, the Foreign Office said.

“We express the deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” the ministry said in a statement.

At least 23 people were killed and 30 injured when a bus collided with a truck early on Tuesday, the regional governor’s office said in a statement.

The injured were transferred to a hospital in the town of Mallawi, about 260 kilometres (162 miles) south of the capital, Cairo.

The bus, heading to Cairo from the southern Egyptian city of Sohag, smashed into a truck parked on the side of the road, a security source said.

“Pakistan stands in solidarity with the fraternal people and government of Egypt in this moment of grief,” said the Foreign Office.
