Former England player appointed as Afghanistan’s head coach

Former England middle-order batter Jonathan Trott has been appointed as Afghanistan men’s team’s head coach.

Trott will take over as Afghanistan’s head coach for the tour of Ireland in August. Trott, who played over 200 international matches for England, worked as a batting coach for the senior England men’s team on their tour of India in 2021. He was also a mentor and batting coach for the under-19 team.

“I’m honoured and excited to have the opportunity to take one of international cricket’s most exciting teams through what is a huge year for their development as a team,” Trott said.

“I can’t wait to get to work with a group of players who are clearly capable of generating results in a style that will make the people of Afghanistan proud.”

Afghanistan are set to tour Ireland for five T20Is in the second week of August.
