Nine Lahore traffic wardens found to be drug-addicted

LAHORE: The scourge of drugs has affected every sphere of life and the traffic police is no exception as several traffic wardens found to have been drug addicted.

During a survey, Pakistan Today learnt that nine wardens of the Lahore traffic police were addicted to drugs. According to Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muntazer Mehdi, the department spent money on rehabilitation of these wardens who were addicted to drugs.

However, sources in traffic police informed that the CTO Lahore had received a tip-off that some traffic wardens were addicted to drugs, after which a medical check-up of all the wardens was carried out which revealed that nine traffic wardens were addicted to heroin.

According to sources, these addicted wardens were treated at the expense of the department. However, later one of the nine wardens started taking ice drug at which he was again admitted for rehabilitation with a final warning by the CTO to mend his ways.

Talking about the issue, CTO Lahore Muntazer Mehdi informed that drug addicted wardens would not be tolerated in the department under any circumstances. “Drug abusers cannot remain in the department after treatment. If a warden becomes intoxicated after treatment, he will be fired,” he declared.
