Varsities’ research must spur progress: UoG VC

GUJRAT: The University of Gujrat vice chancellor has underscored the need for all ongoing research at national universities to carry the potential of resolving various issues the country faced with and spur further progress and development.

Prof Dr Shabbar Atiq expressed the views while chairing the 16th meeting of the Advanced Studies & Research Board (AS&RB) at Hafiz Hayat Campus on Tuesday.  The AS&RB is responsible for guiding and facilitating the students in their academic and research activities by devising strategies for MPhil and PhD programs of higher education.

“The quality of the academic and scientific research activities must be improved. The benefits of the research at the universities must trickle down to our industrial workers,” Dr Shabbar Atiq said.

The vice chancellor said that a research project is worth spending time and effort on if it has the potential to spur the country’s progress and development. He emphasized the need for maintaining the quality of MPhil and PhD programs.

The proceedings began with the approval of the recommendations and agenda presented in the previous meeting. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Mushahid Anwar presented the agenda of the meeting as Director AS&RB. The members presented useful suggestions for improving the ongoing MPhil and PhD programs in various departments.

Prof. Dr Muhammad Faheem Malik, Dean Prof. Dr Shahid Iqbal, Dean Prof. Dr Faisal Mahmood Mirza, Dean Prof. Dr Zahid Yusuf, Director ORIC Dr Audil Rashid, Director QEC Dr Rashid Saeed, Dr Atif Jafari and others, board members of affiliated colleges Dr Shahid Saeed Qureshi, Dr Noor Zaman and Dr Adnan Adil attended the meeting.
