PESHAWAR: The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has agreed to invite the Afghanistan squad for a cricket series in Peshawar.
Finance Minister of KP Taimur Jhagra indicated in this regard that the city is safe for foreign players; hence a match is essential to send a positive image.
Jhagra further stated that Arbab Niaz Stadium is approaching completion, while Hayatabad Cricket Stadium is ready to host matches.
Former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja stated earlier this month that overseas players were unprepared to visit the provincial capital.
Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi also expressed his disapproval of Ramiz’s statement, claiming that it would give the world a negative impression.
Javed Afridi did not attend the PSL 8 draft ceremony in Karachi or the Board of Governors meeting last week in protest.
Days afterwards, Javed Afridi promised to do all possible to bring international cricket back to the provincial capital.
“Being a son of this soil, I promise the people of Peshawar and KP [Khyber Pakhtunkhwa] that we will bring all our foreign players to play in Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium,” tweeted Afridi.
