Harsh Winter: Children among eight die in various incidents of suffocation

LAHORE: Children among eight people died while others affected in various incidents of suffocation in different districts of the province were hospitalized on Monday.

According to details, the first incident was reported in Jia Bagga area of Lahore where gas accumulated in room of a house. Two children including Zainab 03, and Usman 04, sleeping in the room were suffocated to death while five-year-old Fatima was hospitalized in critical condition. Parents of the victim children were not present at home at the time of incident.

In Nasir Town area of Faisalabad four people slept on night after burning coal in the room to keep them warm. Combustion of coal produced carbon monoxide due to which three including Mazhar Sarfraz, Nafees Munir and Shabbir Munir died of suffocation whereas Husnain Fazal became unconscious and was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition.

In Shergarh area of Okara, three children Noor Fatima, Usman and Iqbal die in another incident of asphyxiation while two women Abida 25, and Bushra 45 were shifted to hospital in precarious condition for medical aid. The victims had burnt wood to keep their room warm while sleeping in a closed place in a frosty weather, police added.

Moreover, in an incident of gas leakage blast in Dhok Hassu of Rawalpindi, a mother and her child sustained serious injuries. They were transferred to hospital for medical attendance, rescue sources said.
