Governor Punjab commends role of religious scholars in promoting interfaith harmony, peace

LAHORE: Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligur Rehman has commended the role of religious scholars in promoting interfaith harmony and peace.

Talking to a delegation of Ulema led by Pir Nazim Shah which called on him at Governor House on Tuesday, he said that the religious elders spread Islam in the subcontinent with love and always gave the message of brotherhood and peace.

Muhammad Balighur Rehman further said that our religious scholars have laid great emphasis on moral values and tolerance. He urged the religious scholars to play their role in the moral education of the people in the society.

He said that around the world and especially in our religion of Islam, breaking promises and not fulfilling one’s commitments is considered an undesirable act. He added, there is a party which is of the view that taking U turn is the quality of a good leader.

The Governor Punjab said that upholding the constitution, law and economic stability in the country is our top priority. He said that record loans were taken in the history of the country by the previous government in the last three and a half years. The coalition government has saved the country from default by taking tough decisions and repaying huge debts, he added.

Talking about the economic situation, Muhammad Balighur Rehman said that trade and business community is going through difficult situation due to economic problems. He added, Muslim League (N) had steered the country out of economic crises in the past. He said that he was hopeful that political and economic stability will come soon in the country. He said that it was first ever in the history of country that coalition government was established after successful no-confidence motion, in a constitutional manner.

Mufti Asiq Hussain, Pir Idrees Zinjani, Pir Zahur Kazmi, Pir Aslam Bukhari, Pir Mian Ijaz, Pir Javaid Shah, Makhdoom Asim Mahmood and Mufti Liaqat Ali were present on the occasion.
