Gill challenges arrest warrant in SHC

KARACHI: Shahbaz Gill, former chief of staff to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, on Thursday moved Sindh High Court (SHC) against the issuance of his arrest warrant on sedition charges.

The former minister had requested an immediate hearing of the petition which, however, was turned down by the bench. The judge said his court only hears new cases on an immediate basis.

The court directed Gill to file the plea as per rules and regulations via the rooster branch.

Last week, a district and sessions court in Islamabad issued a bailable arrest warrant for Gill, accused of inciting mutiny in the powerful military.

The court issued a bailable arrest warrant on his absence and rejected his petition for exemption from personal appearance. He should be presented before the court on the next hearing and submit a surety bond of Rs200,000, the judge said.

Moreover, the court postponed his indictment in the sedition case till January 6.
