Only political stability can fix Pakistan’s economic woes: Rasheed

ISLAMABAD: Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, president of the Awami Muslim League (AML) party, said that only political stability could bring economic strength to the country, observing that in the prevailing circumstances, financial wizards were bound to fail.

In a tweet, he questioned how could a government afraid of holding even the local government elections would be willing to conduct the general election.

Lambasting the economic policies of the PDM government, the former minister said industrial units were bring closing down, while the exchange rate of the dollar touched Rs270 in the black market.

He said snap elections were the only solution to the economic mess.

He advised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to visit the poor to see for himself whether or not Pakistan has defaulted. The minister said on the one hand the country had to pay $8.3 billion in the first three months of 2023 and on the other, the government was begging for money.
