RAWALPINDI: Former interior minister and AML Chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and his nephew MNA Sheikh Rashid Shafiq have been acquitted in the case of sloganeering at Masjid-e-Nabawi.
Fateh Jang Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Arif issued the order on their acquittal plea filed under Section A-249 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
On behalf of the accused, Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan Advocate gave arguments on the plea.It is to be noted here that during the visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia, some people hurled insults at him and the members of his delegation at Masjid-e-Nabawi.
Qazi Tariq of the Lawyers’ Wing of the PML-N had got a case registered at the New Airport Fateh Jang police station. The names of former prime minister Imran Khan, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Fawad Chaudhry, Qasim Suri, Murad Saeed, Rashid Shafiq and others had been included in the case.
Sheikh Rashid and Rashid Shafiq were implicated in the case on the orders of Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on the basis of mere political opposition.
“They have nothing to do with this incident, nor can they think so,” Sardar Abdul Razzaq Advocate asserted.
“According to the law, the FIR of an incident abroad cannot be registered in Pakistan, nor can a private person file an FIR of blasphemy,” he added.
“Such a case can be registered by the federal or provincial government only,” he stated. After hearing the arguments, the court pronounced the verdict.
