Maryam will return on January 28, minister says

LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and party members, including Maryam Nawaz and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, met to discuss preparations for the upcoming general elections and plans for the senior vice president’s return to Pakistan.

Khan announced that Nawaz’s return schedule has been slightly altered, with her now set to leave London on January 27 and arrive in Lahore on January 28.

PML-N supporters have begun preparations to welcome Maryam Nawaz back to the country, as she had left for London last year after receiving her passport from the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Sharif served as the prime minister of Pakistan from 1990-1993, 1997-1999 and 2013-2017. In 2017, he was disqualified from holding public office for life by the Supreme Court for not being honest about his assets.

The following year, Nawaz was sentenced to seven years in prison for owning assets beyond her declared sources of income, which was later suspended by the LHC.

The PML-N is preparing for the upcoming general elections in Punjab and planning for her return to the country to lead the campaign.
