RAWALPINDI: In a recent development, an officer of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) was injured in separate incidents of firing in the cities of Rawalpindi and Peshawar, according to police reports on Sunday.
The ANF teams were targeted by drug traffickers during raids on drug establishments.
In Rawalpindi, the ANF team was conducting a raid to arrest a drug trafficker, identified as Khan, who was reportedly supplying drugs to youth through Facebook. During the raid, the accused opened fire on the ANF team, resulting in injuries to one officer, Lance Naik Moeen, who was hit by a bullet in his arm. The officer was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
The team, with the assistance of local police, launched an investigation to arrest the accused.
In another incident in Peshawar, an ANF vehicle came under fire on Nasir Bagh Road. However, no ANF officers were injured in the firing. After the officers retaliated, the drug traffickers fled the scene, leaving behind their vehicle.
The accused were proclaimed offenders and wanted by the ANF in several cases. During a search of their vehicle, the ANF personnel seized 10 kilogrammes of heroin and as much quantity of ice drug.
An ANF spokesman stated that further action was underway to arrest the culprits.
