ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken serious notice of not implementing penalties against 32 Customs officials.
Document available wit Pakistan Today suggest that the Chairman FBR has taken a serious notice of the instances where Competent Authority had imposed penalty under Efficiency & Discipline Rules but field formation had not implemented/given effect to the penalty.
This vitiated the very spirit of the entire E&D proceedings and wasted the man-hours spent on it. The department had imposed major or minor penalties against 32 Customs officials last year.
The officials included Additional Collector (BS-19) Rana Irfan Shoukat, Assistant Chemical Examiner Aftab Ahmad, Deputy Director Akmal Shahzad, Appraising Officer Maira Gulrez, Superintendent Attique-ur-Rehman, Appraising Officers Faseehuddin, Syed Muhammad Fawad Ahmad, Muhammad Rizwan, Imran Khan, Muhammad Naeem Butt, Inspectors Asghar Kemal, Amir Ghazal, Muhammad Saeed Randhawa, Muhammad Saeed Sabir, Ihtisham Khurshid, Usman Khan, Mirza Mazhar Masood, Syed Muhammad Ali, Nadeem Hussain Israr, Superintendent Khawaja Hur Abbas and Nasir Zaman Raika, Principal appraisers Syed Irshad Ali Shah,Salman Ahmed, Hassan Waleed, Ali Junaid Akbar, Abdul Kalam Khan, Imtiaz Hussain Khan, Rabia Samad, Faiza Hameed and Deputy Superintendent Effan Younas.
Chairman FBR has directed members of customs, DG Customs Intelligence to furnish report to the Board latest by March 6, 2023, to ascertain that the penalty given to an accused was enforced timely and properly.
“… further directed to say that it is the responsibility of the Head of a formation to ensure that the penalty imposed on officers/officials is given effect/implemented in letter and spirit without any delay,” the document added.
