Leaders extend warm wishes to Christian community on Easter

ISLAMABAD: The Christian community around the world is celebrating Easter today, and in Pakistan, the community is also participating in special prayers and events with religious enthusiasm.

Special prayers and events are being held in churches across the country, with a large number of Christian community members attending. The government has made special arrangements for prayers, and tight security measures have been taken outside churches.

In Karachi, a colourful Easter celebration was held at Holy Trinity Church, where carols related to Easter were sung at a ceremony.

Easter does not fall on the same date every year, and the second major festival for the community is celebrated on the first Sunday of the Christian calendar.

President Dr Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari all tweeted felicitations to the Christian community living in Pakistan. Similarly, Punjab Governor Baligh ur-Rehman and caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi also congratulated the Christian community on Easter.

The governor said that Prophet Isa taught restraint, brotherhood, and love for humanity, and added that all minorities have equal rights in Pakistan. He maintained that the Christian community has played a positive role in the establishment of the country since the Pakistan Movement.

Naqvi also wished a happy Easter to the Christian community, remarking that they equally share the joys of the Christian community in celebrating Easter. He assured the Christian community that it would be provided with a peaceful environment to celebrate Easter in the true spirit of the festival.

In a statement on Saturday, the caretaker chief minister acknowledged the significant role of the Christian community in the progress of Pakistan and directed to ensure foolproof security arrangements on Easter across Punjab. Naqvi also asked the police and law enforcement agencies to remain on alert.
