LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday rejected PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan’s contempt plea against the police operation at Zaman Park.
A single-member bench of the LHC comprising Justice Tariq Saleem heard the contempt plea challenging Zaman Park police operation. Filing a written reply before the court in the matter, the respondents including Chief Secretary, IG and CCPO Lahore submitted expressing that the operation was conducted to clear the no-go area on the direction of the government and it was not a contempt of the court.
After a brief hearing, counsel for the PTI chief Imran Khan sought the court permission to withdraw the contempt plea in the matter. It is pertinent to mention that earlier the PTI Chairman Imran Khan has filed a contempt of court plea against the police operation at his Lahore residence. He contended that the police force carried out an ‘illegal operation’ at his Lahore residence on March 18 and violated his fundamental rights. Khan has prayed the LHC to issue directives to police in the matter.
