LAHORE: Dacoits took away more than Rs50 million worth of gold and cash from a jewellery shop in Sundar area of Lahore, police said Monday.
According to police, a gang of bandits entered a jewellery shop, held shopkeeper hostage at gunpoint and looted Rs3.2 million worth of cash and Rs47.6 million worth of gold from the shop. The bandits decamped with booty after swift operation.
On information, police rushed to the scene and started search for the bandits. A dacoity case was registered. The shopkeepers of the area have strongly flayed police for this crime on the occasion of Eid and demanded recovery of the looted cash and gold to the ower forthwith.
Mastermind of bank robbery arrested in Miranshah
Meanwhile, security forces on Monday claimed to have arrested the mastermind of the gang involved in looting a bank in Miranshah.
As per details, a raid was conducted in Miranshah, North Waziristan and the mastermind Naseer Ullah was arrested by the intelligence agencies.
He revealed that he was given the responsibility of providing weapons and vehicles for looting banks. The Miranshah police had earlier conducted a raid against the robbers on March 20 but they managed to flee the spot of the incident. On March 21 Naseer Ullah surrendered to the police and returned Rs 3.95 million.
The police have so far recovered Rs 5.42 million out of the total Rs 7.2 million.
Earlier, the cyber-crime branch of the Federal Investigation Agency in a raid arrested six members of a fraud gang.
