Sindh expands diesel-electric hybrid bus fleet for Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon has announced plans to expand the fleet of the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi. The provincial government is currently in talks with a local manufacturer of diesel-electric hybrid buses to facilitate this initiative.

During a ceremony held to introduce a diesel-electric hybrid bus manufactured by Yutong Master Company, Memon assured foreign investors and the local business community that the Sindh government would extend its full support and provide necessary facilities to enhance their capacity and productivity.

At the event, representatives of the local manufacturer presented Minister Memon with the key to a diesel-electric hybrid bus.

Memon took the opportunity to emphasise the special instructions given by former president Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to relevant provincial officials.

These instructions aim to improve public transport services in all cities and districts of the province.

“There is a clear directive from chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to modernise public transport services throughout Sindh,” said Memon.

He further revealed plans for the construction of a dedicated bus depot for the transport department, with additional bus depots to be established in the city as required by the public transport systems.

In a recent tweet, he announced that a new fleet of diesel-electric hybrid buses would soon arrive in Karachi, as the model bus has already been received.

“The transport department is introducing new transportation projects for the people of Sindh. God willing, PPP’s Sindh government will provide maximum transport facilities,” he added.
