RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Friday raised concerns over transparency in upcoming general elections as he sensed foul play in Karachi mayor elections.
In a series of tweets, the former interior minister said time will tell the PPP what it has lost by staying away from Jamaat-e-Islami mere for the mayor’s seat. He said what happened in Karachi mayor elections was just a “trailer of national election,” adding that all should be alert.
“Democracy is best revenge,” he said it was demonstrated by Pakistan People’s Party in Karachi on Thursday. He said minority had overpowered the majority as JI and PTI’s joint candidate could not win the mayor election despite bagging 900,000 votes. “The world is trying convince us but we have no sense,” he said.
Lashing out at the government, he said people were forced to end their lives but “rulers are busy in foreign trips”.
Attack on residence of senior lawyer Latif Khosa was alarming, he said while warning that a major incident could happen. The former minister further said the ruling coalition was driving the country towards economic disaster, adding that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) wanted to save Pakistan from default but rulers were bent on it in order to impose economic emergency.
