LAHORE: Starting from July 1, heart surgeries, including the placement of stents, under Sehat healthcare card have been temporarily suspended at private hospitals in Punjab.
This suspension will continue until a determination is made regarding deserving and needy individuals who require these procedures, the government announced.
Media reports indicate that the relevant insurance company has issued a notification stating that all treatment provisions at private hospitals in the province are halted. Heart patients will not be eligible for any form of treatment on healthcare cards at private hospitals.
Moreover, the Punjab government has recommended that heart patients be charged 30 percent of the treatment cost. The suspension of cardiac services on health cards will remain in effect until deserving individuals in Punjab are identified.
The notification reads that private hospitals providing treatment for heart ailments after Saturday will not be compensated, in a decision that has raised concerns about the accessibility of necessary medical care for heart patients.
