ISLAMABAD: Naila Kiani and Samina Baig, high-altitude mountaineers and a source of national pride for Pakistan, conquered Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth-highest mountain, on Sunday morning at 10:18 am, the Alpine Club Of Pakistan (ACP) announced.
The remarkable feat marks a significant milestone, as Kiani becomes the first woman from Pakistan to summit seven peaks worldwide with altitudes surpassing 8,000 meters.
The duo overcame hazardous terrain, severe weather, and a plethora of challenges during the journey.
They were accompanied by other mountaineers Rizwan Dad, Eid Muhammad, Ahmed Baig, Waqar Ali, Saeed Karim, Liaqat, Wajid Nagri, and Shah Daulat, according to ACP secretary general Karar Haidri.
All of them also successfully scaled the peak, he said.
Nanga Parbat, known as the treacherous “Killer Mountain,” poses a 21 percent fatality risk, making it one of the most perilous peaks on Earth.
Reflecting on her accomplishment, Naila expressed her initial apprehension due to the high number of fatalities associated with the summit. However, her unwavering determination propelled her forward, leading to her ultimate triumph.
“I am filled with both fear and satisfaction in having achieved my mission,” Naila shared. “Bringing honour to my beloved country fills me with immense joy. I dedicate all my accomplishments to Pakistan, its people, and my invaluable sponsors, the BARD Foundation, who provided unwavering support throughout my journey.”
