ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan appeared before the court of judicial magistrate Islamabad to apologize in a case related to alleged threats made against a woman judge.
The incident took place after he condemned the custodial torture on close aide Shahbaz Gill and announced his party’s intention to file cases against the concerned officials, including the judge.
Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, accompanied him during the court proceedings.
During the court session, Khan expressed remorse for his past remarks made at a political gathering that might have crossed the line and hurt someone, particularly Judge Zeba Chaudhry.
He acknowledged forming the PTI as a political party 27 years ago and stated that he went to the judge’s courtroom with the intention of offering an apology for his previous statements.
The incident leading to this court appearance occurred on August 20, last year, when Khan condemned the alleged custodial torture on Gill and announced his party’s plan to file cases against Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the DIG, and Chaudhry.
Consequently, he was booked under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Moreover, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) initiated contempt of court proceedings against him.
