China will further open up to foreign investment: official

BEIJING: China will optimize the business environment for foreign investors to further their engagement with the Chinese market, said an official at a regular press conference held by the State Council Information Office on Monday.

Chen Chunjiang, assistant minister at the Ministry of Commerce, said that China recently announced a series of measures to boost foreign investors’ confidence and attract more high-quality foreign investment to the Chinese market.

In the first half of this year, over 23,000 foreign-invested enterprises were newly established in China, up 35.7 percent year on year, as the economy continues to recover and the market retains huge potential for development.

Chen said key tasks in the second half of this year include reducing the negative list for foreign investment and expanding market access for foreign investors.

Special events to further attract foreign investments will be included in “Invest in China Year” activities, he added.
