HEC announces scholarship program for Gilgit-Baltistan students

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced a scholarship program for outstanding students of Gilgit-Baltistan who wish to pursue undergraduate studies at top Pakistani universities or institutions.

According to HEC, the scholarships are being offered for the academic year 2023-24 in all areas of study or disciplines.

The HEC set criteria for scholarship is to be a domiciled in Gilgit-Baltistan, have a Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent, be 22 years old or younger as of the closing date for applications and not be currently enrolled in any other scholarship program.
The scholarship covers tuition fees, hostel fees, and other charges up to Rs. 240,000 per year. It also includes a stipend of Rs. 15,000 per month and books and traveling allowances of Rs. 30,000 per annum.

Candidates will be shortlisted based on their scores in an aptitude test to be conducted by the Education Testing Council (ETC), HEC. They must also secure at least 50% marks in their academic credentials.

Students who are already enrolled in a BS program at a public sector university or institution prior to the advertisement or announcement of the scholarship may also apply.

The award of the scholarship is purely merit-based and is not based on gender, caste, race, or religion.

The application can be submitted online through the HEC website: http://eportal.hec.gov.pk. The last date for submission of applications is September 30, 2023.
