Financial constraints hinder funding for BRT in KP

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance Department to allocate one billion rupees for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) due to financial constraints.

The Department of Transport, KP, had requested these funds from the Finance Department. However, the Finance Department, in a written response, explained that it could not provide the requested funding, citing financial difficulties.

In the previous fiscal year (2022-23), the Finance Department had disbursed 66.24 million rupees for the BRT project. Regrettably, these funds remained unused, prompting an internal inquiry by the Department of Transport. As of now, the inquiry committee has not released its findings.

The Department of Transport said that is currently in urgent need of one billion rupees for the BRT project. While the Department had hoped to roll over the one billion rupees allocated in the previous fiscal year for this purpose, the Finance Department expressed its inability to fulfill this request.
