To rope in youth, IGP unveils Friends of Police/Volunteers in Police initiatives

  • Students, teachers, citizens, civil society leaders and leading journalists attend inaugural ceremony
  • All 735 police stations in Punjab being upgraded to Special Initiative Police Stations
  • Police establishing safe city projects in Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Multan with own resources

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar on Saturday officially launched the Friends of Police and Volunteers in Police initiatives aims at enhancing interaction with the youth and strengthening relations with the public.

Inaugural ceremony of Friends of Police/Volunteers in Police programs held at Alhamra Hall organized by the Lahore Police in which students of various educational institutions, teachers, civil society representatives, eminent anchor persons and columnists participated.

On the occasion, IG Police Dr Usman Anwar pinned badges of Friends of Police and Volunteers in Police to the students and citizens. Talking about objectives of Friends of Police and Volunteers of Police program, Dr Usman said that the Punjab Police Department is rapidly moving towards citizen centric police and Friends of Police and Volunteers in Police are latest initiatives that will prove to be a milestone towards community policing.

He said that under these programs, young students are being made ambassadors of Punjab Police, which will strengthen relationship between the police and the youth. The IG Police said that Friends of Police and Volunteers in Police will be given study tours and visits to Special Initiative Police Stations, Khidmat centers, Tahaffuz Marakaz and Meesaq centers, where they will understand police working, public service delivery and the challenges faced by the police in the society, after examining the office working these students will play their role as police ambassadors in society. In his address, IG Punjab said that all 735 police stations of Punjab are being upgraded to Special Initiative Police Stations, in Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Multan, Punjab Police is building modern safe city projects with its own resources. These projects will speed up the process of changing the traditional police station culture and policing & will improve service delivery services will be provided to citizens in an optimal environment using modern technology.

In the ceremony, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Additional IG Operations Punjab Shahzada Sultan and DIG Operations Lahore Ali Nasir Rizvi talked about the aims and objectives of friends of police and volunteers in Police. The speakers said that Friends of Police Program is a one-day interaction with Punjab Police, In one day, the youth selected as Friends of police will get information about police working, public service delivery, the procedure for obtaining them, the rights and duties of citizens and the services available for public, and they will play the role of police ambassador in the society after having one day interaction with Police, they will also be given special Friends of Police badges.

On the occasion, ASPs of Lahore Police gave a presentation on the interaction with the first batch of Friends of Police and Volunteers in Police programs. ASP Sidra, Shehar Bano, Saad Afridi, Salman and other officers including ASP Shahrukh gave a briefing about the program starting from police lines Qila Gujar Singh. DIG Kamran Adil, DIG Capt (r) Liaqat Ali, DIG Imran Kishwar, SSP Operations and other officers of Lahore Police were attended the launch ceremony, in which a large number of students from various educational institutions participated and joined the Punjab Police as Friends of Police and Volunteers in Police.
